This is the only Florida native iris. It has vibrant blue blooms appearing in the middle of May while the rest of the year the green leaves add textural interest in the pond. Grow in sun to part shade and keep well fertilized and moist to 3 inches of water over the crown. Zones 8-11.

Crinum menehune
This crinum is a great addition to the pond. The dark red strap leaves and light pink blooms provide a focal point. Even when not blooming the leaves provide a nice contrast to mostly green marginal plants. Grows to 18 inches tall in moist soil to 3 inches of water over the crown. Zone 9-11.

Avalanche
This water lily might be just what you want in the heat of summer. The flowers appear icy white with light blue tips. The green pads have subtle maroon mottling and a spread of over 6 feet. Grow in full sun. It was named Best New Water Lily and Best New Tropical Water Lily in 2006.

Panama Pacific
This plant has a 100 year history and is still a very dependable and desirable variety. The rich violet-purple flowers are cup shaped then stellate and exude a sweet fragrance. The green pads spread 4-6 feet but may be kept smaller in a small pot. This plant grows best in sun but tolerates partial shade. It is one of the hardiest tropical water lilies and it is viviparous.
