Bagdad
Bagdad flowers are light blue with yellow anthers tipped in blue.  The stellate (star) shaped flowers grow to an 8 inch diameter. A sweet fragrance is emitted in mid-morning to attract pollinators. Green leaves have many purple to red splashes on the 10-12 inch pads. It is also viviparous - grows new plants on the leaf. Plants with this trait are more tolerant of cooler temperatures. Carla’s Sonshine
No, the name is not misspelled. The hybridizer, Florida Aquatic Nursery, gave the naming rights for this water lily to the International Water Lilies and Water Gardening Society as a fund raiser prior to its release in 2004. The highest bidder was Greg Witstock whose wife, Carla, named the new water lily for her sons. Carla's Sonshine, in addition to the unique name, has deep yellow petals and is the only viviparous yellow water lily on the market. Colorata
Colorata is a species plant- not a hybrid. The cup shaped flowers are rich violet-blue with reddish blue tipped anthers. The flowers are 4.5 to 5.5 inches in diameter. The leaves are green and 8-9 inches. The plant spread is 3-6 feet making it ideal for containers or small ponds. It will continue to bloom when the water temerature drops to 65 degrees F.  It is the parent plant for Director George T. Coral Sky
Coral Sky was a new water lily, for us, in 2023. There are multiple cup shaped blooms with 40 petals on each flower. These are held high above the leaves with pink petals and a hint of autumn colors - peach, orange.  The green pads have purple splashes. Coral Sky is a vigorous grower and compact.
